Swedish Meatballs

Ingredients

  • 1 beaten egg
  • 2 1/4 cups milk or light cream
  • 3/4 cup soft bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup snipped parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon allspice or ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 teaspoons instant beef boullion
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 to 3 cups of cooked noodles

Directions

  • In a bowl, combine egg, 1/4 cup of milk and bread crumbs, onion, parsley, 1/4 teaspoon of pepper, allspice (or nutmeg).
  • Add the meat and mix well.
  • Shape into about 30 meatballs
  • In a large skillet, cook meatballs in margarine/butter half at a time over medium heat (about 10 minutes, no pink, turn to brown evenly)
  • Remove meatballs from skillet and drain on paper towels. Reserve 2 tablespoons of drippings.
  • Stir flour, boullion granules, 1/8 tsp pepper into reserved drippings. Add remaining 2 cups of milk.
  • Cook and stir until thick and bubbly, then stir for 1 minute more.
  • Return meatballs to skillet and heat through.

Notes

Serve over wide sized egg noodles.
